Choose a suitable bike at your preferred MietOn station. You can also return the bike at any other MietOn station. Please also note our tour ideas. Outstanding in rental we also have scooters.
After you have choosen a vehicle and the rental period, turn on your GPS and Bluetooth on your smartphone to unlock the lock. Click on the button “Book now” to start your ride.
You can simply pause your ride via APP with the button “Close lock”. To end your ride, lock the vehicle within 20m at any MietOn station.

What are the opening hours to rent a bike?
All our MietOn stations are open 24 hours & 7 days a week. The bike rental simply works via smartphone & APP.
Can I use the bike immediately?
Yes, as soon as you have registered successfully (takes only about 2 minutes) you can unlock the lock and start your ride immediately.
How do I register?
You have to download the free MietOn-APP here for Android or here for iOS.
Process (takes only about 2 min):
1. download the APP to your smartphone
2. accept the terms of use
3. enter your user data (like address and email address)
4. an email will be sent to your specified email address for authentication. Confirm the link in the email.
Alternatively, you can also register in advance via this web form.
As a registered tenant/user you can rent and return bicycles at all MietOn-Stations.
Please note that you must provide a unique phone number or e-mail address. You cannot register two accounts with the same phone number and/or email address. After completing the registration process you will receive a confirmation email. You will then receive a confirmation email to activate your account.
How do I rent a bike?
As a registered tenant/user you can rent and return bicycles at all MietOn-Stations. There are 2 ways to rent bikes.
A = Rental via QR code scan -> if you are at a MietOn station.
B = Rental via location selection -> if you are not at a MietOn station or cannot scan the QR code:
A. Rental via QR Code Scan -> If you are at a MietOn-Station (after successful registration):
1. activate GPS & Bluetooth on your smartphone (needed to find your location and open the lock).
2. select an appropriate bike at a MietOn station and scan the QR code (located on the front of the bike or on the bike frame). Alternatively, you can select the corresponding bike number in the MietOn app.
3. now choose the rental period (overview prices & payments)
4. select the payment method
5. unlock the bike lock by pressing the button "open lock".
Enjoy your ride!
B. Rental via location selection -> If you are not at a MietOn station or cannot scan the QR code (after successful registration).
1. select the location by clicking on "Locations".
2. choose a bike type
3. choose the rental period (overview prices & payments)
4. select the payment method -> after successful payment, the screen shows the current rental via "Active rental". Click on the rental to get to the selection list of available bikes.
5. select an available bike by clicking on a bike number
Repeat steps 1-5 to rent another bike.
6. open the bike lock (activate GPS & Bluetooth) when you are at the station.

Do I need a Smartphone?
Yes, to register via APP and open the lock, a Bluetooth compatible smartphone is required.

Can I unlock more than one bike with one phone?
Yes! With 1 account (1 smartphone) you can rent up to 6 bikes. Repeat the same steps for each additional rental.
If you want to use MietOn as a group of more than 6 bikes, please contact info [at] mieton.de or use our contact form and send us your request - give the location, date and time and the number of bikes you would like to rent.
Can I make a reservation?
Almost. A reservation we call a "pre-booking". You can rent bicycles even if you are not at the rental station. So you can rent a bike earlier but ride it later. Please note that with a pre-booking you are already renting the bike (a pure reservation over a longer period is not possible).
Process (after successful registration):
1. go to "locations" in the APP
2. choose the location where you want to rent the bike (and pick it up later)
3. choose the rental period (overview prices & payments) and pay online
4. select a bike in the MietOn-APP by selecting a bike number
The selected bike is now yours and cannot be used by anyone else. Go to the bike location within your chosen rental period.
Follow steps 1-5 to rent another bike.
5. when you arrive at the location make sure that your GPS and Bluetooth are activated. The MietOn-APP will now automatically connect to the selected bike/lock.
6. unlock the bike lock by pressing the button "open lock"

Do I have to keep GPS/Bluetooth switched on while riding?
No, in order to save your battery, you can deactivate the GPS and Bluetooth use while riding. Only when you want to use the bike lock (pause or finish the rental) do you have to switch the GPS and Bluetooth back on. The MietOn-APP will then notify you.
Do I have to wear a helmet or a safety vest?
Wearing a helmet or safety vest is not compulsory in Germany. However, we recommend wearing a bicycle helmet to avoid serious head injuries in case of a accident. A safety vest is also recommended in city traffic, especially in the dark season.
How does the return of the bicycle work?
The rental bike can only be returned at the designated rental stations within a radius of 20 m. You can recognize the MietOn-Station in some cases by a bicycle stand with the blue-green MietOn logo or you can also see all stations marked in the APP via a blue-green icon and a round radius:

Terms of use
Read the terms of use before starting the registration/use of a rental bike. To use bicycles, you must accept the terms of use by clicking on "I agree" during registration.
How much does bicycle rental cost?
1. renting a bike for 1-hour (up to 60 consecutive minutes): 2,50 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
2. renting a bike for 3-hours (up to 3 consecutive hours): 6 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
3. renting a bike for 5-hours (up to 5 consecutive hours): 9 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
4. renting a bike for a whole day (up to consecutive 24 hours): 12 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
5. renting a bike for 2 days (up to consecutive 48 hours): 19 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
6. renting a bike for 3 days (up to consecutive 72 hours): 29 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
7. renting a bike for 1 week (up to consecutive 7 days): 39 €
(If the time limit is exceeded, the fee will always be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour)
Which payment methods are accepted?
You can pay by PayPal or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Barclaycard, Diners Club etc.). If you want to use PayPal as payment method, a PayPal account is required. If you want to pay by credit card or debit card, two-factor authentication is mandatory for example by entering a password or fingerprint.
How can I use a voucher?
After you have selected a tariff and before you switch to payment, you have the option to redeem a voucher code. Confirm the voucher code by clicking on the tick.
What if I exceed the booked fare?
If you have exceeded your rental time, your rental will be extended by one hour at €2.50 per hour.

Where do I lock the bike when all options are occupied?
The rented bike can only be returned at the designated rental stations within a radius of 20 m. Try to park and lock the bicycle as safely as possible with the lock on the bicycle. If necessary, give us information about the parking location via APP when returning the bike.
The return is to be completed via the button "End your booking" in the MietOn-APP!
What are the consequences of an incorrect return of the bicycle?
According to our terms of use, you are obliged to return the bicycle in the proper manner.
If a bicycle is not returned at the marked stations (within a radius of 20 m), the bicycle cannot be locked and the rental cannot be completed. You will continue to be charged for all fees incurred (tariff excess). If the bicycle is stolen because it is not locked, we will also charge you for this.
How do I know that the return has been made correctly?
The rented bicycle can only be returned at the designated MietOn-Stations within a radius of 20 m. The return is to be completed via the button "End of booking" in the MietOn-APP.
I can’t connect to the lock after payment. What can I do?
If you have successfully completed the payment and cannot connect to the lock, first make sure that your GPS & Bluetooth is activated and wait a while until the APP has been connected to the lock. If you still can't connect, in most cases it will help to close and restart the MietOn-APP completely.
I have a problem with the function of the bike or have noticed a defect - what can I do?
If you notice any damage or defect on the bike during the rental process, the bike must be parked at the nearest MietOn-Station (if possible) and the defect must be reported to us via MietOn-APP (in the section "End Rent") or by phone 0351 82874090. After checking the reason for the damage, the rental fee will be refunded to you.
What should I do if a rental bike is stolen?
If the bicycle is stolen during the rental period, you must immediately report it to the relevant police department and also inform us of the theft by calling 0351 82874090.
What happens if I damage a bicycle?
An unintentionally caused damage to the bicycle can always happen. If this is the case, the bicycle must be parked at the nearest MietOn-Station (if possible) and the damage must be reported to us via MietOn-APP (in the section "End Rent").

What should I do if I have an accident during the rental?
If your state of health after an accident requires urgent medical attention call 112.
You must also immediately notify us by calling 0351 82874090 (if possible). The bicycle should be secured until the arrival of a MietOn employee.
What can I do if my account has been charged with an incorrect debit?
Contact us by email info [at] mieton.de or via contact form. Send us information about you (name & contact information) and about the rental (time & location) as well as the information about the wrong debit. We will get in touch with you.

Example "best price option":
If the bike is used for 1 hour, €2.50 will be charged. If the time limit is exceeded, the rental is always extended by an additional hour at €2.50 per hour. The system always calculates and compares the "best price option" based on the tariffs and finally charges the customer the lower price.
Example:
If the bike is used for up to 2 hours, €5 will be charged.
If the bike is used for up to 3 hours, €6 will be charged (best price option = tariff with 3 hours at €6).
